iPhone 8: Release Date, Specifications and Price
iPhone 8 Release Date
As per usual, Apple are aiming for a launch in the Autumn. Apple Insider – normally a reliable source of information – are citing a date of September 12th. This would set them up for a release of mid-to-end of September.
Unlike the iPhone 7s, the new premium model is set to be in constraint until the new year. This means it won’t be as easy to just ‘get’ one as it has been in the past.
iPhone 8 Specifications
The ‘iPhone 8’, being a premium model and having to compete with the 7s – is thought to be a considerably high-specification smartphone; boasting an OLED display, wireless charging and a curved glass back.
Likely features include:
- OLED display
- Wireless charging
- Curved glass back
- Advanced biometric security
- Removal of the physical home button.
- 5.1″-5.2″ edge-to-edge screen
- 10nm “A11” processor
- Vertical dual lens camera arrangement
- Facial Recognition
- Curved screen
- Fast cable charging
- FaceTime camera & speaker located above display
- Rear Touch ID
- Touch ID removal*
- 512GB Model
*Reports on this vary – it’s probably conjecture based on the premise that the home button will not be present.
iPhone 8 Pricing
Here’s the bit you didn’t want to hear.
The iPhone 7 price rose to £599 in the UK (thanks, Brexit!). We think it will stay the same for the 7s refresh model. The cost of building the iPhone 8, however, will be significantly higher for Apple.
US-based analysts believe that – depending on storage size – you’ll be stumping up between $850-$1000. Most reports do seem to claim that a modest 4-figure sum is the most likely.
Since UK prices are generally the same as US prices (bearing in mind the US figures don’t include tax) we would expect those to translate to £849 and £999.
Where to get the iPhone 8
It won’t be easy to get your hands on the iPhone 8. Chances are you’ll need to pre-order as soon as you can after launch to make sure you get it before the new year.
