Our CBDR (Cloud Backup and Disaster Recovery) Service replaces your traditional flat file Backup with complete hard disk images, managed locally and then replicated offsite securely into the cloud.
This service is an on-site data backup and off-site disaster recovery solution rolled into one. It is deliberately priced to be affordable to the SME market yet provides a comprehensive data backup service and enables your servers to be recovered within 1–24 hours of failure.
How does it work?
A storage appliance (NAS) is installed in your office. This provides a complete local Backup history, ensuring fast data recovery. All Backups are encrypted and you can retain exclusive access via your own passwords.
Now for the details
The backups alone provide a comprehensive data backup facility that is fully automated and quick and easy to restore from. All backups are stored in one central database and you can browse quickly to specific files and folders in your ‘point-in-time’ images, allowing for granular recovery of your data.
On-Site Disaster Recovery
Your server backups are effectively a complete image of your servers. There are built in tools which allow one to easily restore these images to non-similar server hardware. So if your server has a critical hardware failure that cannot be repaired, we can take your most recent backup and restore the entire server image to completely new hardware.
Off-Site Disaster Recovery
Your daily backups can also be transmitted off-site to our data centre. In the event of a major disaster such as fire or flooding which results in the complete loss of all your server infrastructure (including the Disaster Recovery Device), we can use these off-site server images to completely recreate your server infrastructure. The same retention settings will be used for the off-site copy so the backup chains are identical on-site and off-site.
The transfer of the images is made via a secure FTP connection, and all backup images are encrypted via AES-256, so are completely secure from the point they are captured by the software.
Automated monitoring
Every part of the backup solution is linked to automated reporting systems which feed all alerts to a live dashboard in our offices which is which is monitored continuously by a dedicated pair of monitoring engineers. At multiple points through the backup process backup image files are verified and tested to ensure they can be used for a successful restore.
- The dashboard shows any backups which have failed, or have failed the initial hash verification test after they have been created
- It also shows the status of any replication offsite which is in progress (though typically this completes overnight to avoid bandwidth being used during the day)
- Backup files are then verified (and periodically re-verified) at our datacentre to ensure they have been received intact, and any errors reported on the dashboard
A further automated test is carried out each night where all drives for all managed servers have the most recent point-in-time mounted to ensure they contain a useable file structure inside.
Service Guarantee
This service comes with a 24-hour server recovery guarantee time and as part of this service we can either restore your servers to our ‘Virtual Server Platform’ hosted at our datacentre in Weybridge (near London) or we can supply you with some of our ‘hot spare servers’ as a temporary replacement until you have either repaired or replaced your server hardware.
