With top smart phones now costing in excess of £500, it’s easy to see why a smashed phone screen can really ruin your day. Therefore knowing the answer to ‘Can you fix a Smashed Phone Screen?’ before buying a new phone is valuable information to have. So what are the options? Can you fix a smashed phone screen? Should you get your phone insured? How to avoid a smashed phone screen? And How can we help?
Can you fix a smashed phone screen?
Well, the great news is “Yes you can” and this is by far the most cost effective solution. In our experience screen repairs work well as our customers regularly send their phones into our office in West London and we will get it repaired for them.
If your phone is out of warranty then simply take it to your local high street phone shop who will repair it for around £50. There are many shops who will repair your phone for you – so shopping around will achieve the lowest price, although this does require legwork.
If your phone is new and in warranty e.g. you have a new iPhone 6 for, you may be better off booking a repair with Apple directly in order to preserve the warranty. You simply book a Genius repair time slot at a local store. This can cost as little as £80, which is not too bad for a phone that costs over £500!
Although you may see DIY YouTube videos, I personally also wouldn’t recommend attempting to fix a Smashed Phone Screen yourself. You’d have to purchase all of the parts yourself, have the right tools, and if you made a mistake it may well damage the phone further.
It’s also worth bearing in mind that opening up your phone will void any warranty and if you have insured your phone, it’ll be difficult to claim if you’ve opened up the device.
Should you get your phone insured?
Although you can get your phone insured, you will probably find that it’s cheaper just to put the equivalent money to one side should you have a repair in future. Usually the contract fine print and policy excess can mean that you land up with a lot less than you expected.
So we do not recommend phone insurance as we don’t feel it’s cost effective.
How to avoid a smashed phone screen?
Unfortunately, there’s not really a definitive way of preventing a smashed phone screen. Most smart phones are kept in cases and this does help a huge amount. However when dropped face down on a hard sharp object, there is nothing that will protect the screen.
For high risk organisations – such as construction businesses, there are phones built specifically to be tough, however these are manufactured by brands like CAT and JCB and as they’re not mobile specialists, they won’t worry too much about the spec of their phones.
